Data Security

The security of your data and personal information is of utmost importance to us. In this overview, we outline the ways you can help maintain the security of your own account as well as the steps we take to protect it. Do you have a security issue you'd like to report to us? Email us on info[at]bankwiser.eu.

Your connection to Bankwiser

Your connection to Bankwiser is always encrypted. That means that nobody is able to intercept your communication with us. This is especially important if you're using Bankwiser on a public WiFi network. Our transport security implementation was given an A+ rating (as of July 2019) by SSL Labs, which you can access here: https://www.ssllabs.com/ssltest/analyze.html?d=bankwiser.eu.

Your money can't be accessed

Bankwiser is not a transactional service like a bank. It is a READ ONLY service that gives you great ways to view your data and manage it through innovative tools. No one (not even you) can move or remove money from your financial accounts via Bankwiser. When you import transactions to Bankwiser, you give us "read-only" access to your data. That means we can only fetch your information to show it to you.

It is entirely up to you how long you want to use Bankwiser. You can close your account at any time, in which case all your information, including personal data, accounts, transactions, etc will be permanently deleted.

Data security & encryption

Your Bankwiser password is hashed with the bcrypt algorithm and then stored. This hash cannot be reversed into your actual password. Sensitive data, such as email address and bank account numbers, is not saved within the system as plain text. It is always encrypted using an advanced 256-bit encryption algorithm (Advanced Encryption Standard), equivalent to that used by banks. This algorithm is widely used by financial institutions and allows to hide all confidential data in such a way, that no third party could visualize or manipulate it. The same encryption algorithm is used for your imported bank transactions, which are stored in an encrypted cache. This cache will be cleared automatically when you log out from Bankwiser. You can always clear it manually in your user dropdown menu by clicking on the menu item "Clear Transactions".

View your login history

In your Bankwiser settings (User menu > Personal Settings > Security) you can view your last login data for your account. If you spot any suspicious activity, ensure your devices are secure and change your password immediately.

YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR MAINTAINING THE CONFIDENTIALITY AND SECURITY OF YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS AND PASSWORD. WE ALSO RECOMMEND THAT YOU CHANGE YOUR PASSWORD PERIODICALLY. YOU MAY NOT PROVIDE THESE CREDENTIALS TO ANY THIRD PARTY. IF YOU BELIEVE THAT THEY HAVE BEEN STOLEN OR BEEN MADE KNOWN TO OTHERS, YOU MUST CONTACT US IMMEDIATELLY AT INFO[AT]BANKWISER.EU. IF THIS OCCURS, YOU SHOULD CHANGE YOUR PASSWORD IMMEDIATELY. WE ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE IF SOMEONE ELSE ACCESSES YOUR ACCOUNT THROUGH REGISTRATION INFORMATION THEY HAVE OBTAINED FROM YOU OR THROUGH A VIOLATION BY YOU OF THIS PRIVACY POLICY OR THE BANKWISER TERMS OF USE.
